Twilight Saga: Eclipse [a review]
This year we were prepared for the crazyness that is involved with going to see a Twilight Saga movie at midnight. We arrived early knowing we would sit in line, then be herded to the auditorium and wait another 2 hours before the movie began. We had the essentials, Twilight shirts supporting Team Jacob [naturally], magazines and snacks. We were ready.
I knew Twilight fans were crazy. And I know there’s bound to be a few annoying people mixed around in that bunch. Remember the girls screaming when Edward appeared on screen and Jacob taking his shirt of in New Moon last year? Yeah, there’s some major Twi-Hards at these things. And this was no exception. Fortunately, for a while, our seats deterred some people from sitting around us. We had this huge partition in front of us that slightly obscured the bottom centimeter of the screen. No big deal if you have good posture. We had several people sit down, complain about it and move. Even one girl that had sparkles on because apparently she thinks she’s a vampire. But then the inevitable happened. And unfortunately for us, it was some super annoying people on both sides of us. To my left the most annoy group of blondes I think I may of ever encountered. Typical teenage girls that cuss for the heck of it and think the world evolves around them. Making snide comments at people and talking as loud as they possibly could. I considered punching one in the face after one of those snide comments was directed at my friend… but later had a much darker thought [that Bethany blew the "therapy whistle" at]. Then on Bethany’s side a girl that talked about inappropriate things much much too loudly. As to draw attention to herself, naturally. And she too had commentary on just about everything on screen. Even about noble Edward wanting to wait to have sex before him and Bella were married. If you have read the books, you know this. Number two, this is not a bad thing. It is wonderful there is something in the mainstream showing the example of waiting. [and ps. Edward is not real. He is a fictional character portrayed by Robert Pattinson. An actor, by the way, that you probably will never meet. And most definitely will never have the chance of dating. So stop daydreaming and get a life]
If I had a few thousand laying around, I would want to rent out the entire theatre as to not deal with these stupid people. So, after we move past the annoying people attending this film, you are left with the best film out of the Twilight Saga yet.
Eclipse was good. It was so much better than the other two. I was hoping it would be good. I was hoping David Slade could pull this one out and make it work. And he did. He, along with Melissa Rosenberg made the book more real than the others. They brought the intensity of Edward and Bella’s relationship to life. They brought the passion Jacob has for Bella to life. And most surprising of all, the actors brought it this time. Even Kristen Stewart had a few good moments. But it was Taylor Lautner that gave a really great performance. The cinema-photography was pretty awesome. The movie did not lack in action or in romance. As a fan of the books above the movies, I was disappointed with the arrangement of somethings. I liked the anticipated tent scene, with the exception of how Jacob finds out Bella and Edward are engaged and Bella’s reaction after THE kiss that finally takes place between Bella and Jacob. It missed some key points in the pure devastation that Jacob faces in knowing Bella’s choice. Everything was better in this movie. I walked away from New Moon highly disappointed. Even though I bought the movie, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to anyone. But, I would recommend going to see Eclipse. Finally, a good one.

i have been anticipating the alice in wonderland release since i learned it was being made. when the first trailer was released it made the anticipation grow even more. i just knew this was going to be an amazing film.
last night i was lucky enough to get tickets to the sold out show at opry mills. it was my first 3D movie experience. it took a little while to get adjusted to viewing the movie in a different way, but eventually my eyes adjusted and it really brought the movie to life. i think tim burton’s films are magical. the vibrant colors and unique costumes add to the amazing little wonderland that he created. i thought the writing was very clever and enjoyed the new story they created based on the original alice in wonderland. i enjoyed alice’s journey to find confidence and courage in herself, while maintaining a childlike innocence and charm. i think mia did an excellent job portraying a confused girl trying to find her place in a world that is constantly telling her how to be and how to act. and she had the most beautiful dresses! i especially loved the one she wears at the red queen’s castle. it is extremely unique. if there is a knock off of this dress, i would love to have it.

johnny depp gave a brilliant performance of the mad hatter. i love what he brings to all of his characters. all the little mannerisms he puts into make a character what it is really amazes me. he is brilliant.

i think what i liked most about this movie is that it was a combination of my two favorite childhood stories- the wizard of oz and the lion, the witch and the wardrobe. a quest to discover personal greatness from an ordinary character. a world full of magic. i think it could be ranked up there with the wizard of oz as my very favorite movie. i would go see this again (in imax this time!) and will purchase the movie. it was wonderful.

[i just want you to know, i am not obsessed, just excited.]
new moon midnight premier is thursday. and i am super excited. i think it is exciting to go to midnight premiers. i went to see ‘charlie and the chocolate factory’ at midnight when it opened. it reminds me of the care free days of college. however, this time, i have a job to go to at 8:30 in the morning… it maybe a little crazy.
but here’s why i am excited:
1. because i rather enjoy the twilight books. vampires and werewolves sound crazy, but it is a fun series to read. really. and it is fun to see it made into a movie
2. lovelovelove the character jacob. therefore, i am excited about new moon.
3. it is kinda fun to be a dork about something. get a little fanatical… get lost in a movie/book for a couple hours… life kinda gets put on hold and it is a nice break.
4. because lets face it, rob pattinson is rather nice to look at if nothing else
5. and best of all, i get to spend time with two awesome ladies, e and b.

*SPOILER ALERT*

tonight i finally was able to go see ‘where the wild things are’. there were four of us who went to see it… and there were several mixed reviews. i, for one, enjoyed the movie. it is dark and i would not recommend it for young children.
i may be kind of a dark and twisty individual. i like raw emotion, even if it is a tad depressing. and this movie was full of raw emotion. from rage to loneliness to even happiness. max was a young boy who was lost and overwhelmed by his parents being divorced, his sister not spending time with him anymore, his mom working constantly and dating a new guy and just trying to be a kid among all the junk in his life. he sought out ways to channel his strong emotions by acting like a wild thing. he was attention-starved. he sails off to this island where the wild things are. there is a monster, carol, that is very angry and destroying his friends houses. carol is upset that his friend KW is spending time with her other friends. one of the things i loved about this movie was the strong symbolism.
i think all the monsters represented a part of max’s psyche and at times the conflicts he was having in his life. carol is representative of the anger max feels. in my opinion, KW represents max’s mom. and her new friends, bob and terry the owls, represent his mom’s boyfriend(s). she is also very caring towards max and looks out for him. however, i could also see the possibility that KW represents claire, max’s sister and the owls represent her stupid friends. i think that the way all the monsters are searching for a king… someone to make things better and make everyone happy symbolizes max’s need for a father in his life. i think that the black monster (Minotaur), the one without a name, and that is absent from the majority of the scenes, represents his dad. i think the goat like monster (douglas maybe) represented the times when max felt unnoticed… and the times he didn’t believe in himself. alexander, the bird, probably symbolized max’s inner conflict of childhood innocence and growing up. he went along with max being a king, but knew all along that he was just an ordinary boy. judith was a character that caused max many problems. she was very much grounded in reality and max was not. in my other scenario for the character meanings, i would say that she could represent the part of his mother that he did not like. the part that was not understanding to his needs… and therefore, ira, her boyfriend would represent his mom’s boyfriend. this could especially be true in the scene where he is kissing on her and max and her get frustrated at each other. though of course, all of it is up for interpretation.
i loved that the movie did not down play the raw emotions a young child would feel in a divorced family. it is hard on children and they carry strong emotions from that event. they all have strong emotions (wild things) that they have in their lives that they simply do not know how to deal with. that being said, it was dark. and at times could be very frightening to a young child. i would say this is more of an older children to adult type movie. i thought it was really well made.
if you have seen it, i would love to know what you thought!
also… the moon was lovely tonight.

i wish you could see it in all its glory…. but i could not find my remote control for my camera, thus you have a somewhat blurry image. perhaps you could just go outside an see it for yourself
