Twilight Saga: Eclipse [a review]

This year we were prepared for the crazyness that is involved with going to see a Twilight Saga movie at midnight. We arrived early knowing we would sit in line, then be herded to the auditorium and wait another 2 hours before the movie began. We had the essentials, Twilight shirts supporting Team Jacob [naturally], magazines and snacks. We were ready.

I knew Twilight fans were crazy. And I know there’s bound to be a few annoying people mixed around in that bunch. Remember the girls screaming when Edward appeared on screen and Jacob taking his shirt of in New Moon last year? Yeah, there’s some major Twi-Hards at these things. And this was no exception. Fortunately, for a while, our seats deterred some people from sitting around us. We had this huge partition in front of us that slightly obscured the bottom centimeter of the screen. No big deal if you have good posture. We had several people sit down, complain about it and move. Even one girl that had sparkles on because apparently she thinks she’s a vampire. But then the inevitable happened. And unfortunately for us, it was some super annoying people on both sides of us. To my left the most annoy group of blondes I think I may of ever encountered. Typical teenage girls that cuss for the heck of it and think the world evolves around them. Making snide comments at people and talking as loud as they possibly could. I considered punching one in the face after one of those snide comments was directed at my friend… but later had a much darker thought [that Bethany blew the "therapy whistle" at]. Then on Bethany’s side a girl that talked about inappropriate things much much too loudly. As to draw attention to herself, naturally. And she too had commentary on just about everything on screen. Even about noble Edward wanting to wait to have sex before him and Bella were married. If you have read the books, you know this. Number two, this is not a bad thing. It is wonderful there is something in the mainstream showing the example of waiting. [and ps. Edward is not real. He is a fictional character portrayed by Robert Pattinson. An actor, by the way, that you probably will never meet. And most definitely will never have the chance of dating. So stop daydreaming and get a life]

If I had a few thousand laying around, I would want to rent out the entire theatre as to not deal with these stupid people. So, after we move past the annoying people attending this film, you are left with the best film out of the Twilight Saga yet.

Eclipse was good. It was so much better than the other two. I was hoping it would be good. I was hoping David Slade could pull this one out and make it work. And he did. He, along with Melissa Rosenberg made the book more real than the others. They brought the intensity of Edward and Bella’s relationship to life. They brought the passion Jacob has for Bella to life. And most surprising of all, the actors brought it this time. Even Kristen Stewart had a few good moments. But it was Taylor Lautner that gave a really great performance. The cinema-photography was pretty awesome. The movie did not lack in action or in romance. As a fan of the books above the movies, I was disappointed with the arrangement of somethings. I liked the anticipated tent scene, with the exception of how Jacob finds out Bella and Edward are engaged and Bella’s reaction after THE kiss that finally takes place between Bella and Jacob. It missed some key points in the pure devastation that Jacob faces in knowing Bella’s choice. Everything was better in this movie. I walked away from New Moon highly disappointed. Even though I bought the movie, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to anyone. But, I would recommend going to see Eclipse. Finally, a good one.

it’s almost time!

Some of my favorite moments of Eclipse that should be in the movie:

And because I prefer Jacob [based on the books, of course ]:

“My fingers tightened in his hair, but I was pulling him closer now. He was everywhere. The piercing sunlight turned my eyelids red, and the color fit, matched the heat. The heat was everywhere. I couldn’t see or hear or feel anything that wasn’t Jacob. The tiny piece of my brain that retained sanity screamed questions at me. Why wasn’t I stopping this? Worse than that, why couldn’t I find in myself even the desire to want to stop? That my hands clung to his shoulders, and liked that they were wide and strong? That his hands pulled me too tight against his body, and yet it was not tight enough for me? The questions were stupid, because I knew the answer. I’d been lying to myself. Jacob was right. He’d been right all along. He was more than just my friend. That’s why it was so impossible to tell him goodbye— because I was in love with him.” -Bella

I am really hoping Eclipse is better than New Moon and Twilight. I was rather disappointed in New Moon… I guess I will be finding out Tuesday/Wednesday at 12:01 am! Yay!

dentist, i abhor thee.

i seriously dislike the dentist. like most people, my idea of fun does not involve sitting in the dentist chair while someone pokes around in my mouth.

i also try super hard to take good care of my teeth. but it seems no matter what i do there is always something that needs to be fixed. always. i even had those sealant things put on my teeth when i was a teenager, and they did NOT work. i think i grind my teeth, so they may have worn off, but goodness! never fails, i always have something.

before last year, it had been about 6 years since i had been to the dentist. dental work is expensive and my parents didn’t have dental insurance. so, i didn’t go. last year, i was provided with dental insurance through my job and finally went. as you may have guessed, i had a lot of work to get done. did i mention i hate going to the dentist?

last year i had some stuff done and am finishing it up this summer. generally if you have insurance, they bill you for the amount you owe. they did last year, so when i went today, i was expecting the same thing. they proceeded to tell my they are trying to get away from billing and that i was required to pay the balance then. um, come again? i am glad these people think i have a few hundred laying around to pay for their services. [thankfully, i do, but still.] what if someone didn’t? because we don’t use any credit cards, if i didn’t have the money then, what would they do? if you are expected to pay in full at the time of services, they should inform their patients. most people cannot afford to drop several hundred on dental work at one time. it is customary if you have insurance to be billed for the balance. and you can either pay a little at a time, or in full when you receive your bill.

they also overprice EVERYTHING! a little tiny filling generally cost about $60… not there! it is around $100+. i hate it for the people who really need a lot of care and no insurance. how can they even pay for all that? it is just not fair to penalize everyone for a few people that may not pay their bills. i pay mine. and i pay it on time.

i also, may or may not be passive aggressive.

but! my birthday is tomorrow and i am going to eat at pie in the sky with the fam! i LOVE the buffalo chicken pizza from there. best. thing. ever. [salivating just thinking about it... or maybe it's cause my mouth is numb?]

and next tuesday at midnight, i will be in line with a ton of crazy girls going to see ECLIPSE at MIDNIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! yay!

ummm… neither does the other one. he’s a werewolf (technically, shape shifter). only vampires sparkle. duh.

New Moon: A Review

Picture it: 9pm Thursday night. Green Hills theatre. 16 midnight showings of New Moon completely sold out. Lines divided by auditoriums. Girls everywhere. Twilight shirts a necessity. Around 9:30 they announced our auditorium was going to be seated first. Girls naturally began to scream in joy. 11:59, lights dim. Previews begin. First preview, a new movie featuring Robert Pattinson: screaming. Finally, the movie begins. Edward appears: more screaming. Later Jacob takes his shirt off (ok several times): more screaming. It was pure girly chaos.

So. First, I love the book new moon. I love the character Jacob. I do of course love Edward, but I like the idea of Bella being with her sun more than her drug. But that’s just me. I love the comfortable relationship Jacob and Bella share. The book is a tad depressing of course, but it is raw. and relatable. and it is great. because I love the book so much, I was really looking forward to the movie.

i was slightly disappointed with the movie. i liked it, but i felt it could have been done a lot better. in the book, bella hallucinates edward’s voice when she is in dangerous situations. i understand the director wanted edward to still be a part of the movie, even in his absence. but the whole ghost-like appearance during the hallucinations were cheesy and awful. the werewolves could have been more lifelike. they looked so fake. it also seemed that they tried to give them human-like qualities with their expressions, which added to the fake look. and the vision that alice had where bella is a vampire running in the forest with edward = MAJOR cheese. taking the “anne of green gables” thing a little to literally. i was disappointed they didn’t play up bella and jacob’s relationship more. in the book she needs him in a huge way. and that did not come across well on screen. did anybody else think that the make up on the vampires looked worse this time? and the sparkles may have looked better, but for some reason they seemed cheesier? and the instrumental music that accompanied the dramatic scenes did not fit well at all. it seemed like they were trying to make it seem big production, when it just wasn’t there. i didn’t really like catherine hardwicke’s production style in twilight, and had high hopes for chris weitz. but left pretty disappointed. i guess the movies will never be as good as the books. i am hopeful that eclipse will be better… some of my favorite moments are there; one being jacob and bella kissing! haha i am not looking forward to breaking dawn, however. if the cg is anything like it was for the wolves, then renesmee is going to look ridiculous. and i already hate that part anyway. but i love: “why am i covered in feathers?” “because i bit a pillow or two, but that’s not the point.” that better be in there!

so, would i see it again?  yeah. would i buy it? of course. better than the book? no way. do i regret going at midnight to see it with a bunch of crazies? no freaking way. it was totally awesome and worth the 3 hours of sleep i did get. it was fun being a part of something so huge and ridiculous.

and for all you twi-haters, i survived on my little amount of sleep. i just stopped being tired and started being awesome instead.

a new moon.

today is the day. it has finally arrived. new moon midnight premier. i am super excited, with a chance of dreading going to bed at 3am-ish and waking up at 7am.

there will be pictures and there most definitely will be a review. so until tomorrow…

excited!

[i just want you to know, i am not obsessed, just excited.]

new moon midnight premier is thursday. and i am super excited. i think it is exciting to go to midnight premiers. i went to see ‘charlie and the chocolate factory’ at midnight when it opened. it reminds me of the care free days of college. however, this time, i have a job to go to at 8:30 in the morning… it maybe a little crazy.

but here’s why i am excited:

1. because i rather enjoy the twilight books. vampires and werewolves sound crazy, but it is a fun series to read. really. and it is fun to see it made into a movie

2. lovelovelove the character jacob. therefore, i am excited about new moon.

3. it is kinda fun to be a dork about something. get a little fanatical… get lost in a movie/book for a couple hours… life kinda gets put on hold and it is a nice break.

4. because lets face it, rob pattinson is rather nice to look at if nothing else

5. and best of all, i get to spend time with two awesome ladies, e and b.

• trying to get too much done before Lead teacher leaves for a conference for 3 days

• potentially 2 birthday parties for students?
• Lead teacher gone

Thursday:

• i don’t even care because at midnight I am going to see NEW MOON! which means a fun filled afternoon watching Twilight, eating, and spending time with friends and finally the moment we waited for! NEW MOON!

Friday:

• will be waaaayyyy tired, but it will be oh so worth it!

so tell me when you hear my heart stop…

the new moon soundtrack was released a couple weeks ago and i have been listening nonstop. i think the music fits perfectly with the overall melancholy mood of the book. i have been trying to imagine where the songs may be placed in the movie… and it just makes me so excited and ready to see the movie!

1. Death Cab For Cutie – Meet Me On The Equinox

with lyrics like, “That everything, everything ends” it reminds me of the beginning of the book when edward leaves. though, i am not sure if it should be played during the scene where she is laying in the woods. it is such a heart wrenching scene, that i feel like the song needs to be more emotional.

2. Band Of Skulls – Friends

“I need every wakin’ hour with you And my friends cause they’re so beautiful ” i think this song would be perfect for when bella and jacob are working on the motorcycle or just hanging out on the beach… he is her sun and she needs him.

3. Thom Yorke- Hearing Damage

“Your mind is restless They say you’re getting better But you don’t feel any better” PERFECT lyrics to describe how bella is feeling… i think this could be used anytime we see her trying to move on, but we know her heart still belongs to edward.

4. Lykke Li – Possibility

There’s a Possibility, All that I had was all I’m gonn’ get… So tell me when you hear my heart stop You’re the only one that knows Tell me when you hear my silence There’s a possibility I wouldn’t know… Know that when you leave,
By blood and by me, you walk like a thief, by blood and by me, and I fall when you leave.” this song is so emotional, that i think it would be perfect for when edward leaves her in the woods. great great song.

5. The Killers - A White Demon Love Song

this song has some lyrics that i would say would be just the overall feeling about edward leaving, however, there is a part that reminds me of how jacob feels about bella.

i love this song… and i love jacob!

6. Anya Marina – Satellite Heart

this song is perfect perfect perfect to describe bella. “Im, A Satellite Heart Lost In The Dark. Im Spun Out So Far, You Stop I Start, But I’ll Be True To You”

7. Muse - I Belong To You (New Moon)

“I can’t find the words to say, But they’re overdue, I’ve traveled half the world to say, I belong to you ” this is not one of my favorite songs, but i could see it being used when edward comes back…

8. Bon Iver and St. Vincent – Rosyln

i have read that this artist does not know where the song will be placed, but says jokingly, “I don’t know where the song will be in the film, but I know that Edward and Bella will not have sex to it.” i don’t really like this song, and don’t have an opinion on it.

9. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Done All Wrong

this song talks about doing wrong (it’s even in the title!)… so i could see it being used when bella is riding the motorcycle or jumping off the cliff

10. Hurricane Bells – Monsters

this song talks about the darkness and the monsters that live inside us… so the placement? i’m not sure… maybe with the volturi? though it is a little upbeat for that

11. Sea Wolf – The Violet Hour

i read that this song will be used during the party scene. however, i wish it would be used for jacob somewhere. “You say “Come touch me But you’re always out of reach” perfect jacob song…

12. Ok Go- Shooting The Moon

i read this will be a montage scene…

13. Grizzly Bear - Slow Life

i’m not sure… and don’t care lol

14. Editors – No Sound But The Wind

this is kind of a sad song.. just pretty much fits anywhere…

15. Alexandre Desplat – New Moon (The Meadow)

i think this should replace bella’s lullaby. the one on the twilight soundtrack used other instruments along with the piano… and edward just used the piano. however, judging by the title, i am sure it will be used when bella goes back to the meadow and all the feelings rush back…

there is also a bonus track Solar Midnight- Lupe Fiasco… i think this would be perfect for the wolf pack!

i am so excited to see the movie and to see how all the songs fit in. i cannot wait for novemeber 20th!
